Switching phones?

Your friendversaries live on your phone, so here's how to bring them along.

Trace is 100% private: your data stays on your device, with no account and no cloud. That means moving to a new phone takes one small step. The backup & restore method below works between any two phones - including Android to iPhone and back.

Recommended: back up and restore a file

On your old phone:

1. Open Trace → Settings → Backup & transfer.
2. Tap Back up my data. Photos are included.
3. Save the backup file somewhere you'll reach it from the new phone: your cloud drive (iCloud Drive, Google Drive…), an email to yourself, or AirDrop / Nearby Share.

On your new phone:

1. Install Trace and open it.
2. Go to Settings → Backup & transfer → Restore a backup.
3. Pick the backup file you saved. Done - your friends and photos are back.

Restoring never creates duplicates: if a friend is already there, they're simply skipped, so you can import the same file twice without worry.

Automatic, if you stay on the same platform

Android: if you set up your new Android phone with the same Google account, Google's backup and device-to-device transfer restore Trace automatically. The manual backup above is still the most reliable, and the only option to move between platforms.

iPhone: if you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud or encrypted backup of the old one, Trace's data comes along with it.
